Number theory workshop

Number theory day organized in cooperation with the Arithmetic Geometry workshop in Utrecht.
The lectures take place in Utrecht, in the main lecture hall of the Department of Earth Sciences (next to the math department).

11.30 - 12.30: William Stein - Visible Shafarevich-Tate groups of modular abelian varieties

11.00 - 12.00: Ed Schaefer - Can the 5-part of the Shafarevich-Tate group of an elliptic curve be arbitrarily large?
14.15 - 15.15: Michael Stoll - Reduction of binary forms - how to find small equations for hyperelliptic curves (abstract)
15.45 - 16.45: Everett Howe - Curves of genus two with maps of every degree to a fixed elliptic curve

The lectures take place in the Gratama room of the Lorentz Center.

No talks are scheduled in the workshop. We expect that many participants will be interested in the Thursday program of the Arithmetic Geometry workshop in Utrecht. It focuses on modularity of elliptic curves and the recent proof of the Shimura-Taniyama-Weil conjecture.
