The Mathematical Institute Newsletter is maintained by
Jan-Hendrik Evertse. The newsletter will be issued
the first week of each month,
except for July and August.
The electronic version of the newsletter can be found on
(go to the homepage of the Mathematical Institute and click on "Newsletter").
Copy for the newsletter of March, such as
announcements, personal notes,
visits to conferences, guests, lectures of general interest,
should be sent by e-mail to

"I am working in the group of Sara van de Geer as ud since January 1,
2003. My present working field is probability theory, in particular
random Schroedinger operators, statistical mechanics, point processes
and combinatorial models associated to random matrices.
I graduated in Munich (Germany) in mathematics and physics
with a mathematical diploma thesis in logic and a physical diploma thesis
in statistical mechanics. After that, I wrote my Ph.D. thesis in complex
analysis (Riemann surfaces of infinite genus) at the ETH Zurich.
As a postdoc, I did research at the Courant Institute (New York), at
Eurandom (Eindhoven), and at Bielefeld university, where I also wrote my
